The Sixth GEF Assembly and Associated Meetings will take place at the Furama International Conference Center in Da Nang, Viet Nam, from June 23-29, 2018.
The United Nations University (UNU) and BCCC-Africa, on the 19th of April, 2018, hosted a media conference on the results from the recently published report of the Person-In-the-Port (PIP) Project.
The Step (Solving the e-waste problem) has issued its White Paper on Developing Legislative Principles for E-waste in developing countries. The White Paper presents core legal principles based on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) that can be reviewed, contextualised, and adapted by decision makers in countries that are developing legislation that will implement Extended Producer Responsibility programmes.
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), UN Habitat, United Nations University (UNU), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Basel Convention and UN Environment at the kind invitation of the Universal Communications Service Access Fund (UCSAF) and Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), organised the eighth edition of the Green Standards Week, from 9 to 12 April 2018 in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
On inauguration of a Steering Committee, the Centre will be governed by a Steering Committee made up of the Directors of the Basel Convention Regional Centers in the African region, representatives of the Federal Government of Nigeria, one member state representative from each of the Basel Convention Regional centres in the African region, representatives from UNEP, UNIDO, AU, ADB, ECOWAS, SAICM, and EU. The role of the Steering Committee is to advise the Centre on issues relating to the development and implementation of the activities of the Centre.
The BCCC-Africa is currently staffed with an Executive Director, a Programme Officer an Administrative Officer, an Accountant, a Secretary and a Research Associate. Some lecturers and professors from the faculties of Science, Social Science, Technology, Agriculture and Medicine of the university of lbadan are Associates/Consultants to the Centre; as well as experts from the African region and the international community.
