BCCC-Africa organised a series of Plastics Awareness Workshops for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in Ibadan during September and October 2025, with the goal of empowering young Nigerians to tackle plastic pollution and promote sustainable environmental practices within their host communities.
The workshops, held on September 25, October 16, and October 23, brought together representatives from the Oyo State Ministry of Environment, the NYSC Secretariat, NESREA, RecycleEdge, and the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA). These experts shared valuable insights on waste management, recycling, and environmental sustainability. Participants also took part in interactive discussions and hands-on activities that enhanced their understanding of plastic pollution and highlighted the vital role individuals play in promoting positive environmental change.
Through the sessions, NYSC members learned how to effectively communicate environmental messages to people at the grassroots level, mobilize community participation, and encourage responsible waste disposal and recycling initiatives. The workshops also inspired participants to develop creative and sustainable solutions that could be implemented during their service year and beyond.
This initiative underscores BCCC-Africa’s commitment to environmental education and youth empowerment, fostering a new generation of environmentally conscious leaders who are equipped to champion sustainability and promote collective action toward a cleaner, healthier Nigeria.
