BCCC-Africa held a three-part Plastics Awareness Training Series for students of the University of Ibadan on September 20, October 4, and October 14, 2025, as part of its ongoing efforts to combat plastic pollution and promote sustainability among young people.
The workshops brought together experts and representatives from the Oyo State Ministry of Environment, NESREA, RecycleEdge, and the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA), who shared valuable insights on environmental protection and responsible waste management.
Throughout the sessions, students were educated on the environmental and health impacts of plastic pollution and introduced to practical ways of managing plastic waste through recycling, proper disposal, and sustainable consumption habits. The interactive format encouraged active participation, allowing students to engage in discussions, ask questions, and share ideas on how to apply what they learned within their communities and campuses.
The training also aimed to inspire behavioral change by highlighting how everyday choices such as reducing single-use plastics and supporting recycling initiatives can make a significant difference. Participants left the workshops more aware of their role in addressing plastic pollution and motivated to act as ambassadors for environmental sustainability.
Through this initiative, BCCC-Africa reaffirmed its commitment to environmental education, capacity building, and youth empowerment, ensuring that the next generation of leaders is well-equipped to champion sustainable practices and contribute to a cleaner, healthier planet.
